Joining forces with MC & spoken-word activist Potent Whisper on We’re the Ones
The title track of our second album We’re the Ones makes reference to a poem by the late June Jordan who famously coined the phrase ‘we’re the ones that we’ve been waiting for.’ The idea is to empower those living in the present to bring about positive changes. The time is now, the power is ours; all that’s left is to seize the day.
This single marks our first collaboration with London-based MC & spoken word activist Potent Whisper. The subject matter, lyrics, title and video concept (see the video link below) were all his, we just provided the music. There are backing vocals from the magnificent singing of Daisy Martey (Noonday Underground, Morcheeba) alongside samples from the late great Bessie Jones.
Leeds’ rising jazz star Emma Johnson provided stellar horn arrangements and superb saxmanship while the much loved Kieran O’Malley turned a single violin into an entire string section. An appearance from expat scratch DJ Mista Ed at the end of the track was the icing on the cake.
